FB driver update + sound?!

Just to let you all know that I am still working on the FB driver :). I have the LCD lit up in a nice all over turquoise colour but no Penguin and nothing I do seems to change that :(. The LCD registers have almost the same settings (one of the unused bits is set in my driver which wasn't set in the 2.4 kernel, but I can't see in the code where it could be set). I get 3 interrupts from the FB which looks about right as once it is up and running it's frame interrupt is disabled. The other news is that I have built all the sound stuff ok and I think it is working as the DMA interrupts go up, but all I have done so far is to 'cat /dev/urandom > /dev/dsp' which makes some difference to the noise, but as the unit is always generating noise I don't know if it is playing my noise or its normal noise! I will hopefully have time to test it with mpeg321 tonight. If it doesn't work then I guess there is a bit in the latch that I need to set to switch on the output amp. I've been lurking for a few months, reading the list and waiting patiently for someone clever to get the E3 booting ! So thanks to Mark, and all the others I went to Argos earlier today and picked my £29.99 E3 to play with ! I'm reasonably good at embedded stuff, drivers etc and I look forward to get a go and help, however I lack "heavy" electronic equipment. Is there a quick "howto" to get the E3 flashed, starting feom scratch ? Do I even have to register it at all ?

Pressing 'q' gives me omap-keypad: Spurious key event 4-3 omap-keypad: Spurious key event 4-3 Pressing 'j' gives me omap-keypad: Spurious key event 4-5 omap-keypad: Spurious key event 4-5 the 1st event in each case occurs when the key is pressed, the 2nd occurs after a short delay Every other key I tried gave a simlar response (with different values of x and y) Matt

Can someone running the 2.6 kernel try pushing the q and j keys on their E3 keyboard (the one on the device, not the mailboard) and let me know if they get any output like: omap-keypad: Spurious key event x-y where x and y are numbers? I'm wondering if I've messed a cable up putting mine back together or if it just has something odd for some of the keys. J. -- No... Don't stop...

No. There isn't a "lockdown". What's more, there are Amstrad employees being helpful and even giving us important information on how to program this thing, on this list, even. If they did make it secure, it wouldn't be possible to do anything like what we're doing. -J.

Im fairly sure Amstrad do have plans to introduce a bootloader that uses RSA signatures to ensure the software it runs is properly signed so as to stop you running your own software on the E3 but so far nobody seem to have gotten an E3 from the shops with a new bootloader so it doesent appear that there is any thing to stop you, that said i havent had the chance to try my E3 which i have just bought. Even if they did change the bootloader it isnt an overly difficult job to desolder the NOR flash and reprogram it with the older bootloader then resolder it onto the board, A £15 "gascat" gas soldering iron from maplin with the hot air attachment will do for desoldering surface mount chips if you are carefull and you can put them back on with a normal soldering iron and some solder wick. NAND flash driver.

I think I'm getting somewhere with the NAND flash driver; I now have the Linux mtd infrastructure detecting it and seemingly letting me read from it. New buildroot config

Hi Folks, With help from friends I've now got a buildroot config which doesn't need busybox to be statically linked... telnetd also works properly too. Yay! The major change is telling it not to use the daily snapshots of uClibc and busybox, as well as changing to gcc4.0.2. You still need to comment out the startup scripts in inittab as before though. Attached is the new buildroot config:
