c compiler prob

Afternoon All, I'm getting the error message "C compiler cannot create executables" when trying to compile something. Don't know if anyone remembers my recent muddle with installing things from the testing in debian in a wild frenzy, ahem, but it all seems to be sort of not working. I tried installing task-c-dev, but that depends on libc-dev, so I tried installing libc6-dev. Again, unhappy, suggested unmet dependency was libc6 (= 2.1.3-19) but 2.2.4-7 is to be installed. "Broken packages" it said. Sniff. I broke my box. Sorry all. I'll bring chocolate biscuits on Sunday, I promise. Jen.

pop3 daemon....

OK... gnu-pop3d has proved itself to be a bit on the flaky side under load.... Have tried it using 100 child processes.. still had problems.. Can anyone suggest a good robust daemon for this please... Simon

Make sure you get order to do it in some written form (this normally makes tham wake up to their stupidity). Do work as instructed. If the server gets owned and you get fired then a tribunal will be on your side for 'constructive dismissal' and you'll get a few pennies for a nice self-training course. --------------------------------------------------- On the subject of passwords there is almost no safe/achievable way of doing this. If theres money involved I'd ensure one to one communication via snail mail with signatures - get them to agree to your site terms and conditions before you let them use it - if you are providing passwords. Or let them register themselves but again you'll need paper proof of their ID before you match them to any 'account'. Well, I'm writing this using my RedHat box.... I had no joy with Kppp. There were no man pages, and the KDE help didn't.;-) I then tried rp3. If I went thru rp3, I had no luck (I had ppp0 and loopback as choices). Going through the configurator through *that* didn't help, even if I added a new account. I then invoked rp3-config directly, set up a new interface and voila... seems that you have to do it directly! (it's the only thing I did different, and that's a bug IMO) So now all I need to do is put my favourite progs on the RH machine. Many thanks for the help! I'm trying out RedHat 7.2 and stumbled upon 2 problems relating to ppp, specifically kppp. 1) although I can connect using kppp from KDE, there appears to be no data transfer when I attempt to look at a website. (I suspect that I have to manually add my DNS servers' IP addresses, perhaps I accidentally put in my own IP address as the primary DNS server or something during installation-duh) 2) OK, if I do run kppp as someone other than root, it asks for root's password. How could I set it up so that I don't need to run a connection as root? It doesn't do it in Mandrake. I am actually gonna write a little report comparing my experiences with Mandrake and Redhat once I've given RH enough chance- all from the POV of a newbie and "Harry Home-User". (I'll post the URL when it is done).
