Thanks to Richard and Wayne for replying about the Gentoo Distro's. A copy of gentoo is currently coming my way. Cheers guys for the help. (just wait till I start pestering about how to install it!)

Thursday meeting - change of venue?

Oi! its not me thankx =-). Im: cpc1-norw1-6-0-cust125.pete.cable.ntl.com ...and your looking for: cpc1-norw2-3-0-cust125.pete.cable.ntl.com ... and as far as i know thats not me. Isnt this just a windows email client exploit? There have been about 30 such emails that ive received in Ximian Evolution on Debian Testing but isnt this a windows virus. Also what does it mean when traceroute shows some stars for one of the lines(hops?) or lots of them? its not me :-P, - Dennis Dryden

Hey all, My name is Richard. I'm new (duh!). I am slowly moving my workflow over to linux. Currently I am using SUSE 8.2. I am trying to work my way towards Gentoo (If anyone has the CD's for gentoo, I'd really appreciate a copy, just a name a price for cd's etc). My main use for computers is 3D modelling and 2D image editing, in september I am starting a Games Design degree at the Norwich School of Art. Does anyone else at ALUG use any form of linux as part of their 2D/3D workflow?

Unfortunately you've just missed an eleven month tutorial on Blender in LXF though the Blender foundation do publish a book. The download is only a few Mbs and its easy to install. Cheers, Richard

Suse 9.0 Disc 2

Ah ha! I've got it! KPPP lists the devices /dev/modem, /dev/ttyS0-3 but these don't all exist on my machine. What I do have, however, is /dev/ttyS[0,1,4]. So I tried # ln -s /dev/ttys[0,1,4] /dev/modem and, finally, ttyS4 worked! (Without any drivers or anything; it definitely is a hardware modem!) Cheers for suggestions, Richard
