At the moment I see no reason why I should not be able to attend I have Boxed definate Linux deluxe, Mandrake 7(PC Plus coverdisc - expect most of you will probably have this), Corel Linux(1 disc), Suse 6.2 Boxed, Suse 6.4(single disc- got from Suse stand at Windows2000 show! (it was the best bit of the show) - I cant make up my mind which distro to use :) I may also be able to dig up Redhat 6.0(1 CD) WinLinux 2000 final beta PhatLinux Let me know if any of this will be useful? I've only just joined ALUG because I'm an absolute beginner in Linux and am having great difficulty, so it's disappointing to see ALUG is not exactly thriving. If individual help to me is possible somehow, please let me know. Trouble with gimp

Hi from another newbie! Does anyone know anything about gimp? I can't get it to do even the simplest transformations. Trying to rotate a selection, for example, produces no result other than a lot of hard disk activity which appears quite rapidly to fill up the partition in use, whether home or root; the only way out that I have found is to log off and start again. Is this a known problem? NT boot.ini

Stu I use the NT boot loader on my laptop. To boot Lilo from the NT boot loader you ned to do the following enter dd if=/dev/hd?? of=/ntdrive/linux.cnt bs=512 count=1 (where /dev/hd?? is the partition you installed lilo to and /ntdrive points to the nt C: drive) Edit your boot.ini file to look like the following (this configuration has linux as the default startup) [boot loader] timeout=30 default=c:\linux.cnt [operating systems] c:\linux.cnt="Linux" multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Windows NT Workstation Version 4.00" multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Windows NT Workstation Version 4.00 [VGA mode]" /basevideo /sos The boot/ini file has the system and readonly attributes so you will need to enter attrib -s -r c:\boot.ini before you edit the file. After wards enter attrib +s +r boot.ini to reset the file attributes. Linux Cobalt Raqs - bloomin' marvellous ;)

I just want to say how darned nice these machines are. I've been playing with a demo machine we've got in the office to decide whether it's worth using these as part of a co-located/reseller solution. I want one for myself :) It's running Linux 2.2.12C3 with an 18Gb hard drive, along with 512Mb of memory. Suprisingly, it's only using IDE for it's hard drive interface. Everything is administered via the web interface, but you also have telnet access along with root privaledges (although they say you could invalidate your warranty by modifying system files). It looks like it's running a customised version of RedHat. It will also allow installation via the web of .pkg files. The web server supports sanboxed CGI, Frontpage extensions, and plenty of other goodies. Web stats and quota management are all handled via it's web interface which customers can access via their control panel. The biggest surprise was it supports the Arkeia backup client which we use with a massive tape library system. The user can backup their own data, or the ISP/host can do it for them. The unit itself it's tiny - we could get loads of these into our racks in Telehouse.
