Old world style TV/Radio repair shop, the sort you often wonder how they are still in business, but then occasionally thank your lucky stars that they still are. The motorcycle shop is still there, been a while since I've seen anything as nice as a Vincent in there though.

Or is it only going to be the CE's from now on? (I couldn't find out from MDK's website). Cheers, Richard

Here's a Perl of a problem
by bjsamuels＠beenthere-donethat.org.uk 16 Apr '04

I have a Perl script, wot I wrote (I'm no Perl expert), which I have been using successfully for some time. One part of it downloads a log in 'resume' mode i.e it downloads only the new part and appends it to the existing log. Just recently it has downloaded the new part of the log but it then overwrites the existing file with just the new bit although the script has not been changed??? The relevant parts of the script are shown below. I'm running Debian Sarge/Testing. Perls of wisdom appreciated. Barry Samuels http://www.beenthere-donethat.org.uk The Unofficial Guide to Great Britain P.S. To anyone who read about my previous FTP problem - a router firmware upgrade cured the problem. ============================================================================== my $ftp = Net::FTP->new("mydomain.com", Passive => 1, Debug => 0); $ftp->login( $user,$password) or die "Login failed - ", $ftp->message; $ftp->cwd("/var/log/httpd") or die "Unable to change remote directory - ",$ftp->message; chdir "/home/user/RawLogs"; my $filesize = 0; # Get size of current log. $filesize = ( -s "access_log" ); my $remotesize = 0; # Get size of remote log. $remotesize = $ftp->size("access_log"); # Download current log. # Don't transfer the first $filesize bytes (append to existing file). $ftp->get( "access_log", "access_log", $filesize ); print "Disconnecting from remote system\n"; $ftp->quit;

Mandrake 10.0 Official CDs available
by Joe Button 15 Apr '04

15 Apr '04

Hi. I've started downloading Mandrake 10 Official so if anyone would like CDs burnt let me know. I'll be away for a few days from tomorrow though so it'll be a little while before I can actually supply the goods. You'll need to either collect them from me in Norwich or I might be able to bring them to the next Norwich meeting (May 13th?) but I can't say for definite. If anyone's wondering, Mandrake are only allowing MandrakeClub members to download the ISOs but everything's under GPL or compatible licenses so yes, I am allowed to distribute them. Paying your subs to the 'Club will make you a better, happier, healthier, and more attractive person though. Joe x

Someone make me a CD?
by Ted.Harding＠nessie.mcc.ac.uk 15 Apr '04

15 Apr '04

Hi Folks, I'm wondering if someone with a fast net connection (and a bit of time to spare) would be willing to make me a CD (or two) of the contents of a website. The site in question is http://www.stats.bris.ac.uk/R/ and I want everything inside this -- i.e. everything with a URL that begins as above (there are some links that point outside this, i.e. don't begin as above, but I don't need those). I'm willing to pay a few quid for the service, or provide goodies to equivalent value ... With thanks in advance, and best wishes to all, Ted. -------------------------------------------------------------------- E-Mail: (Ted Harding) <Ted.Harding(a)nessie.mcc.ac.uk> Fax-to-email: +44 (0)870 167 1972 Date: 14-Apr-04 Time: 22:25:14 ------------------------------ XFMail ------------------------------

FTP problem - update
by bjsamuels＠beenthere-donethat.org.uk 13 Apr '04

13 Apr '04

I have updated the firmware in my router and I can now do FTP uploads from my laptop but still not from my desktop. My laptop is running Debian Stable but my desktop runs Debian Testing/Sarge. This problem now appears to be Debian Testing related although I can't find out what is causing it. Any more ideas anyone - please! Planet ALUG
by MJ Ray 12 Apr '04

12 Apr '04

Hi all, I'm setting up a simple aggregator for ALUG members' blogs (side effect of some other work I was doing), similar to planet.debian.net etc. I hope to make it public on Wednesday or Thursday. If you have a blog and would like to appear on the page, please email me the URL of its RSS, or speak to me on IRC if you find me (irc.alug.org.uk #alug tonight, for example). -- MJR/slef My Opinion Only and possibly not of any group I know. Adding to kdm "Session Type" list
by Ian Douglas 12 Apr '04

12 Apr '04

I have just installed IceWM on my system and like it. I can run IceWM ok if I make /etc/X11/xinitrc a symbolic link to xinitrc.icewm and use startx however I would prefer to run kdm and have IceWM appear in the "Session Type" list on the kdm login screen. Does anyone know how to add IceWM to this "Session Type" list? Thanks, Ian.
