[Alug]East Anglia Update

A couple of weeks ago, I promised to look for possible locations for a meet in the East of the area. I'm afraid I have to admit that due to some rather exciting developments in my business, I've not been able to take the time to fully investigate the possibilities. In fact, I may not have the time to do much for several weeks. I'm happy to continue to try and find the time to locate a suitable place and organise a meet. But is anyone else want to take over because of the delay, I'm also happy to stand aside. Things should hopefully get a bit better in 3-4 weeks for me, since I'll have a few extra staff by then to take on more of the remote support. Until then I'm doing about 1000k a week and falling into bed exhausted 7 nights a week ;-( Incidentally, if anyone on here is currently at a loose end, and is a skilled network admin who can handle a mixture of Linux and Windows networks, drop me a line. It seems that I may need someone like that soon. You'd need to be willing to travel a lot :p Maturity, experience and the ability to work independently would count a LOT. Not Linux or ALUG related, but a warning neverless. If you are offered the following equipment please contact myself or Suffolk Police directly. A financial reward will be offered for the recovery of this equipment and/or information resulting of the successful arrest and prosecution of the individual/s involved. The equipment in question is as following HP NX9005 Laptop (with or without Targus Carrying case) Serial numbers as follows (even if scrubbed off these can be found internally/in the packaging/in the documentation and possibly I think in the Bios settings page.) CNF 3251PL3 CNF 3251PLG CNF 3251PKT CNF 3251PP2 This equipment was obtained from myself in what is appearing to be an act of Forgery, Deception and Fraud. This is a matter the CID are now looking into so I am unable to comment too much regarding the details of this. But please if you (or anyone you know) are offered these laptops let me know. Sorry to post such a somber non Linux related message to the list, but I figure as Computer Folk you may come across these laptops being sold off. Regards Wayne

I ran a tivo in the states, and I can tell you that it's a wonderful gadget to have. There is a project called mythtv out there now that does all that and more now, well worth checking out: http://www.mythtv.org/ I'd like to put one of these together in a mini ITX and just use it with my LCD screen to watch telly etc on. Another really sexy way to do this is to locate a cheap dvd player that has an IDE DVD drive in it.. easier said than done perhaps.. but you take out the guts of the dvd player, hook up the ITX board inside and leave the IDE DVD drive in place, looks rather nifty. I even know of folks who've re-connected the LEDs to make everything look like a normal player! I also recall that some of these mini or micro ITX boards have a bios that will play a dvd or music cd/mp3 cd-rom right after POST if it's detected, I thought that was a very cool feature too DB
