[Alug]Mandrake installation

Hi all, firstly, thanks to Keith Watson for supplying me with the mandrake cds. secondly....aaaargh!!! first install went pretty smoothly....put gnome on as GUI...went into it, all seemed ok. display resolution was set to 800x600, tried to find where to change it, but couldn't. then the gui crashed....rebooted machine, mandrake loaded back up, then halted saying that xfree86 not installed on system. wiped HDD, reinstalled mandrake....everything went ok up to 1 min from end of install, got error 'error on load of module xfree86, do you want to continue' have tried with both a yes, and no, xfree will not load, no matter what i do!!! everything else seem to load, just not xfree.....mandrake runs the command line seemingly ok. can i put xfree on separately, and if so how? much appreciated rob kendall ******************************************************************************************** " This message contains information that may be privileged or confidential and is the property of the Cap Gemini Ernst & Young Group. Hi Has anybody had any trouble with the Cdplayers on Suse 8.2, Two computers, boards Jetway 830ch, Gigabyte GA7A, both Xp1800 Xmms O. K on MP3s, Line in , Mic in, O.K. Start music plays and Kmix adjusted. C.D. is shown as playing but no sound output Regards Nick

Are there any guidelines for the format of book reviews? and, if not, would some be helpful? A quick Google throws up loads of sites, even an O'Reilly one <http://ug.oreilly.com/bookreviews.html>. Once we've written a review what's the next step? Keith

Hi all, Alexis Lee has bowed out of editing the web site, so can you take over one of the two following pages that Alexis used to edit? http://www.alug.org.uk/articles/2001a/bestmeat.html - Suggesting "best of breed" applications, maybe should be updated to mention recent releases? http://www.alug.org.uk/articles/2001a/refs.html - Book list, still edited by Jenny, but I'm sure help/suggestions would be appreciated. If you can edit one of these, please send a short email to the list, then download the page, edit it and email the edited copy back to me.
