Weekly IRC reminder

This is the automated ALUG IRC meeting reminder sent to remind you that there is an IRC meeting tonight (Monday) at 8.00pm. The meeting takes place on the irc server irc.alug.org.uk in the #alug channel. Most IRC clients should allow you to get there with the commands "/server irc.alug.org.uk" and "/join #alug". > Interesting - I can't find any option for spell checking and yet one of the "suggests" dependancies on the Debian package is the apsell spell checker. Strange. IIRC (I might not!) Sylpheed doesn't have this option, but the "bleeding edge" version sylpheed-claws does. (apt-get install sylpheed-claws) Check the sylpheed homepage, it'll probably have more accurate info. Possible Meeting Venue

'Der Management' at Kewill have given a provisional OK to ALUG using the training room here at Stalham Staithe for the odd meeting. We need to check out the insurance position but we have run similar events here in the past apparently so with luck and a fair wind.... Our training room has the usual complement of white boards and flipcharts plus we can borrow an OHP and a display projector if required. It's quite large and can take up to 30-40 people (but 20 is comfortable). There is internet access available. Tea/Coffee facilities are also available on site. The Swan and the Maid's Head in Stalham are within about 5 minutes walk So... is this of any interest? NTL provide you with a Motorola Surfboard cable modem - this is a good thing if you're technically minded becuase there are plenty of resources on the net to tell you how to get a little more than you're paying for out of your modem (I know a 15 year old kid in Essex on NTL getting 2GB) but of course this is not something I would condone ;) I myself have Telewest Blueyonder connected to an old piece of junk 133MHz Intel running as a smoothwall router www.smoothwall.org - I let the installer set up on a pc with windows on it then transferred the NIC to the crappy box and installed smoothwall to maintain the MAC address. 24/7 dialup access

I have at last decided to change from metered dialup access to unmetered. Can anyone recommend a good isp with reliable connection, no engaged tones, etc. I'm using pipex atm, which have given me very few problems, but with the problems of their parent company Worldcom... -- Ashley T. Getting programs to run

I've loaded a program on here from a CD and was using KDE. Although it showed up in my packages I can't figure out how to get it to run! I was going to try 'run' but I'm not sure what to type in. I tried just the name of the program but that didn't work. I'm using Gnome more and more, think I like it better, and Gnome shows an icon for the program but when I click on it nothing happens. What've I done or not done properly? Also, when you're installing a program and it states you need other files, does that mean for certain that they aren't on here? Where do I go searching for these missing files? Thanks, moving along in baby steps *g* Kelly
