can anyone help with installing a driver?

Hi All, I've swapped my DLink net card for a 3com509B to see if I can get better results. I've got as far as loading the necessary 3c509 driver and associating it with eth0, rather than the previous ne driver. However, being unfamiliar with Debian I am not sure as to how to go about changing the modules.conf......in /etc/modutils I have a directory called ne, and in this I edited the address and alias eth0 lines to suit, then ran update-modules. So does it make sense to create a directory called 3c509 and put the same info in it and run update-modules? How does update-modules know that it now edits in from the new 3c509 file rather than the ne file, if so? I'm in a "groan, this is all too hard" mood today. Thanks, Jenny.

Weird FTP Problem - any ideas guys??

Well, here I am de-lurking at last! Have got a really infuriating problem with no clues on how to solve it. Have got two Redhat machines, one is 6.2, the other is 7.0. They are on the same network with a 100 meg hub between them. They both have 100meg network cards. I'm trying to ftp a 70meg file from the 6.2 box to the 7.0 box. I would expect the the transfer to take a matter of seconds but it takes an eternity and seems to get slower and slower as it progresses we're talking transfer rates of < 1K here. I'm totally stumped as to what is causing this and need some kind of tool to analyse the problem and work out what is going wrong here. Any ideas about this please? Cheers. >Like the poster Jen....!t Um, on following the URL for the poster I see the text hasn't been edited in the middle section yet, - think we need to put in the where's, when's and wherefore's before we print and distribute? A time would be pretty essential. David, did you get anyone to print any yet? I have a colour printer at home, but from experience of printing band posters it is a costly project. Lake District a bit grim at the moment.
