Oh yes, it does all the groovy things my other system does, stopping the daemons etc... then it seems to start up again into the login prompt, or after a lot more shutdown commands, puts me into the $BASH prompt. pcmcia/eth0

I have recently installed RH6.1 on my notebook, with no X (yay!). I have 2 problems with it:- 1) When it boots up, the PCMCIA service starts...OK then it comes up with 'delaying eth0 initialisation'. In /etc/pcmcia/config, it has a list of supported cards and mine - d-link de-660 is included (amongst about 100 others). How can I tell if it's actually recognising the card properly? How can I link it to eth0? The floppy drive is bust on the notebook (can read, can't write), so a network card is essential!!! I created a ifcfg-eth0 file in /etc/sysconfig using ifcfg-lo as a template- except with correct IP's. If I manually start ifcfg eth0 up I still get the same problem. :-/ 2) When I issue a Shutdown Now command from the shell, it shuts down and I get a $BASH prompt. Any number of quit, exit, shutdown commands don't seem to work and I end up powering off the laptop. How can I shut down (i.e. power off) the laptop without frying the HD every time, cos at some point I'm going to do some damage to the data. :( -- Get your free email from www.linuxmail.org Powered by Outblaze

Progeny Debian install problems

Has anyone tryed to install this version of GNU/linux? I got a copy from the Linux format mag. it has two iso images for the install disks. So ive made the two disks but there is no time during the install that i get asked to insert the second cd so none of the software gets installed thats on it :(. Also adding packages to my box after ive installed im geting problems... but i cant remember the error message atm. Address books

I have a fairly large contacts folder in MS Outlook 5 which I would dearly like to transfer over to my Linux box (seriously thinking of ditching MS Office for good here). I need the addresses etc in a format that the KDE address book can read. It can import *.wab files but Outlook won't export wab Outlook Express does but won't import from Outlook. Am I going to have to resort to csv text files or is their some other way. Indecently I have a Palm Vx with the data on synced from Outlook so if there is a way of syncing the palm with the KDE address book (kmail is my preferred mail client) I could do that. Distro is MDK 8.1 running KDE or Gnome and has the usual jpilot, kpilot and Gnome panel apps for syncing the Palm. Cheers, BJ
