OK, here we go. This thread has come at an opportune moment.

PS. Has someone booked a room for Alug for the linux installfest?
Yes, it was confirmed today. ALUG's event will be hosted by tsw.org.uk (logo available on request) and take place in the Hive Bar, Union House, UEA Norwich. For those of you who have been to ALUG meetings at Union House, this is the large area opposite reception on the entrance floor. We have it from 1400 to 1830, so I'd suggest a helpers meeting in the small bar downstairs at 1pm, just so we know who we are and what we're doing (and are able to have a (soft?) drink beforehand).
Do we need to get posters up, advertise on the web, etc?
Yes. Yes.
Get lists of members who can attend and what equipment they can bring?
Yes. Who is willing to co-ordinate these things? John has done a good job on announcing meetings so far. Is he willing to do it again? I think I've got my hands full with work and trying to organise the bits at UEA. Can we nominate a representative to talk to the linuxday mailing list, too? I'll cc this to them so they know that things are rolling in East Anglia, so make sure your replies only go to alug@stu.uea.ac.uk ;-)

Sorry for shouting, but we need to sort something out here about what we are doing. I believe(may be wrong) MJ Ray was booking the room. has this been done?
Yes. The booking went in a while ago, but it is pretty impossible to get them to confirm a room booking for a term before the preceding term has ended, it would seem. Fortunately, our term ended last week.
We need to decide what we are doing in the way of installations. Which Distro? Debian sounds like the one people have the most exp with. Do we have a suitable disclaimer written yet?
UEA has an infestation of Debian users and I should have spoken with the central computing service about setting up a local Debian mirror before LinuxDay. If they show their usual glacial reaction, I will make a Debian mirror or CD available to the meeting somehow. We should also have Mandrake CDs from LinuxDay's national sponsors, MandrakeSoft, I believe.
The disclaimer and national advertising should also be coming from the national co-ordinator at LinuxSure, I think.
Does someone want to coordinate who's bringing and doing what?
No, no-one has stood up yet.
And also a list of whats needed?
We should have: Room, Chairs, Tables (from Union, via tsw) Network connection, firewall, four-port hub (from tsw) Mandrake CDs (from Mandrake) Debian installation media (from ITCS or UEA School of Maths) Posters and disclaimers (from LinuxSure)
WE STILL NEED (at least): More networking cables and hubs More posters (local Linux-supporting companies... free advertising at the day if you're helping, I think!) Volunteer helpers and demonstrators External advertising material People putting up the adverts in their local area
What have I forgotten?
Sorry if this sounds blunt and unfriendly but we need to do something and do it well.
I quite agree. Not unfriendly at all. Mould us into an efficient fight^Winstalling force. Or something.

Just the one? #include<beer.h>

Yes. Yes.
When do we get posters and where are we planning on advertising?

OK, if we can get a suitable mirror set up thats great. Also it may be worth considering perhaps armed linux or another linux distro which will work with a windows95 install without repartitioning.
The disclaimer and national advertising should also be coming from the national co-ordinator at LinuxSure, I think.
God. When?
Does someone want to coordinate who's bringing and doing what?

We need someone to. (before anyone asks me to I have four college assignments and an NVQ todo before 29th)
And also a list of whats needed?

Excellent so we will have web access. I take it being UEA this is via Janet?
if so this means that we will have 155mbps of bandwidth to playwith.
WE STILL NEED (at least): More networking cables and hubs More posters (local Linux-supporting companies... free advertising at the day if you're helping, I think!) Volunteer helpers and demonstrators External advertising material People putting up the adverts in their local area
I can do network cables, and if scan don't balls it up again a couple of hubs. Also me=volunteer.

OK.
Is it worth contacting O'reilly UK and seeing if we can get a joblot of linux in a nutshell etc..(or better a rep to come along) and if the books are at a good price can you order me a copy of "java foundation classes in a nutshell" :o)
Thanks
