Hello dear swimmers! My name is Chloe Dewe Mathews. I am a photographer and a keen outdoor swimmer too. I am currently working on a long term photographic project about ritual along the Thames. I'm really keen to incorporate full moon swimming into the project, and hope that anyone who's planning to go would let me tag along too. It looks like the next full moon is on Friday 31st August. Of course I'd be happy to give you copies of the pictures I take. Please get in touch if you are happy to help or have any advice. Facebook group

Thames swimmers and Oxon folk, I've set up a Facebook group for OSS Swim the Thames. For some time distributing events through the main OSS page has been inhibited by some gremlins which mean that not all invitees can contribute and making the events outside the OSS has meant they are lost in the ether. The group will mean that all the events will be in the same place and everyone who is a member of the group will get a notification of the event. If this doesn't happen, check that you have enabled the 'notifications' button. I have added 45 members already through my Facebook account. If you aren't one of these and would like to be (or vv), my apologies, it's not the most user-friendly system. However, it's an open group so you can add/remove yourself and add other members: https://www.facebook.com/groups/408652865865144/ This is the simplest way to resolve a few Facebook niggling issues and will mean all the info and events are in one place. Bank Holiday Thames swim

Dear all Did you all decide what is happening over the bank holiday? My son Andrew is coming down and would like to join us again for a Thames swim. Natalie will be bank support. I believe that there was talk of swimming on just one of the days but probably not Monday. Which day will it be and will we be continuing from Reading? Lovely to see everyone on Sunday. Pam

Possible evening swim tomorrow Friday evening

Anybody fancy a short early evening Thames swim tomorrow evening, possibly Newbridge (Rose Revived) area? Depends on my getting my car back from servicing on time, but how about meet 18.30 at Newbridge, walk up towards Shifford Lock (probably not sufficient daylight to go the whole way) ,and swim back? Anybody interested please give me a phone contact number - in case I have to abandon the idea because the garage keep my car in overnight, as they are wont to do. Neil Richardson

OSS Swim the Thames swims 32 and 33

Dear water babies, This is a save the date message for the forthcoming swims this weekend, the finer details of which I have yet to fully iron out. There will be two swims, one on *Saturday 11th* from the exit point at Pangbourne to River View at Purley-on-Thames, via a stop at Mapledurham, and on *Sunday 12th* from Purley to Thames Valley Park. Both these swims are long - 6.5km on Saturday, 6km on Sunday. We intend to provide for generous stops however, and getting in/out points for those who'd rather do a shorter swim. Neil and Pam have done a 'throw-down' of the first and report a good, doable swim, which was easier going in the latter half. *Please let me know if you wish to camp. * This changes the schedule somewhat as we were on course to collide with Reading Festival for our next weekend swim and swimming in the river may not have been possible during that time. This weekend will set us up to be just beyond the festival area for the next weekend swim which is scheduled for the Bank Holiday Saturday and Sunday, and which we still intend to proceed with at this stage. (Thanks to Chris for the heads-up and suggestions & Neil and Pam for the report.) I will send meeting details, exit points, and camping plans later in the week. Sef & Jeremy

Catch-up of swim from Gatehampton to Pangbourne

Is there anyone who missed the swim on 29th July from Gatehampton to Pangbourne who would be interested in doing a steady-paced catch-up of this section with me sometime? This swim is awkward to do without a car at both ends! I can do any weekend days this month except the planned Swim the Thames days. I am not available on Bank Holiday Monday. August Full Moon Swim

Hi All, Now summer is (stutteringly) getting going it’s time to swim in the dark! Thursday 2nd August is the Full Moon with moonrise at a sensible 8:28pm and sunset at 8:46pm. As the weather forecast for Thursday is, erm, variable I suggest we plan to be flexible. We should meet at the layby on Henley Road to the south-east of Dorchester: http://goo.gl/maps/kIrcd in plenty of time to set off to the little beach at 8pm. If the weather is nice then we should have plenty of time for a picnic before dark. If not we can just get on with the swimming. As is usual for these occasions, I suggest we set off upstream and everyone can return to the beach in their own time.
