Hi Gang, A few of us are planning a catch-up of swim #15 on Saturday 22nd October, meeting at the car park of the Trout Inn at Godstow / Lower Wolvercote at 2:00pm for a 2:30pm start. The plan is to then do the extended swim (approx. 4.2km) as actually done on the main swim #15 from Cassington Cut back to the Trout Inn. However, obviously this depends on the weather/water conditions on the day and if it is too cold we will cut short as necessary. CD

Hi Gang, A few of us are planning a catch-up of swim #15 (Cassington Cut to Kings Lock) on Saturday 22nd October, meeting at the car park of the Trout Inn at Godstow / Lower Wolvercote after lunch at a time to be confirmed. We will then do the swim as per the original plan before the more brave of us head off to camp at Northmoor lock before swim #16 on the 23rd. If you want to camp, please let me know ASAP so I can book the pitches. CD

/The weather's lovely and may still be lovely next Sunday as we push on towards Oxford, hopefully arriving at the outskirts at Port Meadow by the end of October and before the first snow. In this penultimate leg to our intermediate goal of Oxford we will be swimming from Cassington Cut to Kings lock, both locations are a bit out in the sticks so we will have a pre-swim warm up walk, followed by the swim and concluding with a post swim warm down walk. This corresponds to the remainder of swim #27 in Michael Worthington's book, 'I Love the Thames' and will be around 3km. We're meeting in the car park of the Trout Inn at Godstow / Lower Wolvercote at 10:30am on Sunday 9th October 2011 - Green Arrow marks the spot: http://g.co/maps/6k5ub >From there we will walk along the Oxford Greenbelt Way that conveniently cuts the corner of the meandering Thames, skirts the Wytham Great Wood and joins the Thames path at our entry point opposite the Cassington Cut. We will pass the joining of the Evenlode tributary - will there be a cooling effect? Wooo Hoooo - we have upped the anti today on the freebies on the river stakes..... we were given Birthday Cake today from a lady who had turned 55 :o) I think that definitely tops tea and biscuits!!! Hope you all have a super sunny Sunday - Adam, Swan Wrangler, Stocks and I will see if we can get champagne and caviar today! Jo

Hi James Sunday's swim would probably be a perfect one for you - not too long, and both Adam and I are only moderate ability too (Adam is better moderate than I!). The only drawback is that we normally have ground support when it is the whole group, which means we can stop half way for tea and cake, but as this is just a catch up we won't have that. However, its going to be such a lovely day that am sure just a little break in the sun will be enough! So, the plan is that we will meet in the little car park just after the Swinford Toll Bridge (5p at the ready!), on the pub side of the river, at 11.00. The car park costs £2. http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=444500&y=208500&z=120&sv=swinford&st=3… We will get changed there, walk up to the start - about a 20 min walk; swim down and then walk back up from the exit point too. Its all on grass paths once we are down by the river, however you might want to bring some shoes that you could leave at Eynsham Lock to walk back across the toll bridge. Adam will have a vacpack thing for his car key, so we will put all keys in his car for safety. Apart from that, don't think there is anything else you need to know. OSS Swim the Thames #14 - Pinkhill Lock to Cassington Cut - Sat24Sep11@10:30am

/In our relentless journey downstream in the Thames towards the Teddington Obelisk, and beyond, the next step (stroke?) will be Swim #14 from Pinkhill Lock to Cassington Cut, or thereabouts. We now have the delights of the Georgian Toll Bridge at Swinford to look forward to. One shilling to cross but free to swim under. (5p in new money . . .)To make the swim worthwhile, but keeping it to this side of excessive, it corresponds to Swim #26 and part of #27 in The Book according to Michael Worthington and is around 3.3km, or less if we decide to get out earlier. We will meet at the car park at Swinford at 10:30am on Sat24Sep11, marked by the Green arrow, on the north side of the Thames (Thanks to Jo for the local knowledge): http://g.co/maps/t3mbk We can then shuttle (5p at the ready) up to the housing estate at Meadow Way, park, at 'A', and make our final preparations in the field, Green arrow, on the way to the lock: http://g.co/maps/46tjw We will then walk to Pinkhill Lock, jump in and swim down towards Swinford, under the Georgian Toll bridge (better practice butterfly beforehand), skirting Eynsham Lock, and on to an exit on the south bank and the Thames path, opposite the Cassington Cut. Catch-up swims 12 and 13

Having completed swims 8, 9, 10 and 11 over three tiring days last week I'm looking to continue my catch-up with swims 12 and 13 on Friday 23rd, just in time for swim 14 the following day. In view of the falling temperature of the water (I got pretty cold, as well as knackered, doing swims 9 and 10 in one day) I'm proposing to have a leisurely warm-up lunch at B Hythe after swim 12 and before swim 13. Sef has kindly offered to swim no 13 with me, Ann Chance might be doing no 12 and Mary Gill is possibly interested in both. If anyone else out there is interested, my proposed timetable is as follows: 11.00am Start walking from The Ferryman at Bablock Hythe back to Appleton (2.45k) (OR if other cars available, shuttle cars to Appleton)11.45am - 1.15pm Swim no 121.30pm onwards: Hot soup and coffee (or something similarly light but hot) at the Ferryman (last orders for food about 1.50)3.00pm Start to move off, nice and warm3.30pm Meet Sef at Pinkhill to shuttle cars back to Ferryman4.00pm - 6.00pm Swim no 13 to Pinkhill6.30pm Go home! Any other takers? I'd be delighted. I ought to say my swimming speed isn't fast (2k an hour) - and that the water temperature is fast becoming very brisk! Peter
