Catch-up swims 12 and 13

Having completed swims 8, 9, 10 and 11 over three tiring days last week I'm looking to continue my catch-up with swims 12 and 13 on Friday 23rd, just in time for swim 14 the following day. In view of the falling temperature of the water (I got pretty cold, as well as knackered, doing swims 9 and 10 in one day) I'm proposing to have a leisurely warm-up lunch at B Hythe after swim 12 and before swim 13. Sef has kindly offered to swim no 13 with me, Ann Chance might be doing no 12 and Mary Gill is possibly interested in both. If anyone else out there is interested, my proposed timetable is as follows: 11.00am Start walking from The Ferryman at Bablock Hythe back to Appleton (2.45k) (OR if other cars available, shuttle cars to Appleton)11.45am - 1.15pm Swim no 121.30pm onwards: Hot soup and coffee (or something similarly light but hot) at the Ferryman (last orders for food about 1.50)3.00pm Start to move off, nice and warm3.30pm Meet Sef at Pinkhill to shuttle cars back to Ferryman4.00pm - 6.00pm Swim no 13 to Pinkhill6.30pm Go home! Any other takers? I'd be delighted. I ought to say my swimming speed isn't fast (2k an hour) - and that the water temperature is fast becoming very brisk! Peter

Catch-up swims 8 onwards

To those who know who I am, and to those who don't, I am now back from cycling to the Pyrenees and have read with despair the excellent progress being being made by you all, compounded by the fact that you've swum today and will swim again tomorrow. This will leave me about 25k behind you all. But I despair not - Walliams is our example! I am proposing to catch up in time for swim no 14 on Sep 24th from Pinkhill Weir/Lock. This is very short notice I know, but if anyone cares to join me on any of the dates and swims below I'd be delighted and v grateful: Monday 12th, Tues 13th and Wed 14th Sep: I propose to try to do swims 8, 9, 10 and 11 over these 3 days (Radcot Lock - Tadpole Bridge - Shifford Lock - Newbridge - Appleton Weir), probably by carving up the total distance of about 18.4k into three roughly equal lengths of about 6k or so each. My daughter has foolishly agreed to accompany me on the towpath for safety and any help required but with only one car there'll inevitably be walking to the start or back from the finish etc. Monday 12th will be afternoon, Tues 13th will probably span the lunchtime and Wed 14th I hope to have wrapped up by lunchtime or early afternoon. Friday 23rd Sep: Swims 12 and 13, 6.2k, Appleton - Bablock Hythe - Pinkhill - just in time for swim 14 the following day! Anyone out there interested and able to escape on weekdays for this? I'd rather not swim alone but don't want to get left behind! The above is slightly subject to possible change but I hope not. I fear the weather on Monday will be rubbish, but too bad! Peter McMunn

OSS Swim the Thames 12 & 13 and Sept & Oct dates.

David Walliams is an inspiration to us all. And so he has caused a slight change of plan on account of his Thames swim from Cricklade to Westminster Bridge in 8 days. 'Walliams vs. the Thames' starts at Cricklade on Monday and finishes that leg of the swim the same evening at Bablock Hythe, at the Ferryman, a fair whack. Some of us will be welcoming him there. An advance group have therefore decided to do a throw-down of Swim 12 (Northmoor to the Ferryman, Bablock Hythe) in order to keep up with the uber-mensch, although with his 'channel a day for 8 days' ability he might just overtake. For the rest of us, a small reorganisation is in order. Swim 12 will take place on the evening of Saturday September 10th. Meet at Northmoor Lock campsite at 4.30pm to be in the river for 5pm. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?daddr=%2B51%C2%B0+42%27+56.72%22,+-1%C2%B0+22… If you'd like to camp then come a bit earlier to set up (or it can be done post-swim). We will then have an evening swim down to the Ferryman at Bablock Hythe where we may have a pint before returning to Northmoor by foot and a barbecue there. The distance is 2.5km, and is swim 24 from *I Love the Thames*. There's a full moon on the 12th so we'll probably have a later lunar dip.
