Oh, I've got vim installed too. It's OK for quick hacks, but I don't want to try to use it for serious work -- far too often I start typing before getting it in the right mode...

2) Scoring up posts that have me in the References. It was the only way I could find posts which were in reply to me. Beforehand, I'd miss a lot of posts meant for me.

Yeah, I did that. I do find the adaptive scoring in Gnus helps me find topics I'm interested in, as it learns as I go along (scary, huh?).
