Hi Anne Thanks for the info. Would definitely be up for a Wye swim. Probably in the spring. Tend to stick to the pool in winter, being a softie a softie an all. Have a few Cheltenham based people who would be up for that also.

Hi Chris ? It is difficult as this time of the year the river does flow very fast and is high, often breaking the banks.? The only place that I know would be safe is where I get in at Kerne bridge, where they launch the canoes.? There is only a small area to have a little swim around, for me its more about keeping up the acclimitisation and enjoying the feeling of being out in the open water.? Really the only suitable place to exit the river from Kerne bridge would be at Lydbrook which would be a good half an hour if your really fast maybe 5 mins or so faster, or if more a gentile swimmer than maybe up to an hour or more and I wouldn't recommend doing that swim at this time of year for the reasons given above. ? I also enjoy going for a swim at the Chepstow Diving Centre, which is brilliant for swimming, you wouldn't have to worry about the flow of the river and the water is so clear, but ofcourse it is very deep, 85metres at the deepest point and is not lifeguarded as it is designed primarily for diving.? There is a panic button on the platform, but thats no good to you if your out having a swim and get into difficulty on your own.? I don't tend to go there at this time of year but start about April time when I am sure I can have a good swim, as it is a long way to go to just get in for acclimitisation purposes.? They are very good at the centre and are pro swimmers and only charge ?5 to go for a swim and it is not timed you could stay there all day if you wanted. ? If you or anyone else wanted to meet up to go into the river or the diving centre at any time I would be more than happy to do so.? I hope this is helpful. ? Regards Anne ? ?

Hi Anne
Can you recommend some good spots 'out of the flow' on the Wye. I live in Cheltenham and like swimming in the Wye, but have only been to places like Symonds Yat. and The Biblings.
Thanks Chris

Happy New Year people,
Should anyone have made the wonderful resolution to swim every month of the year I am happy to say we will be continuing down the Thames from Oxford recommencing in a couple of weekend's time. All are welcome, we still have a way to go...
Aren't we lucky to have such a river? So we can safeguard our future rights to river access, currently up for grabs in the Government's new initiative - "A New Era for the Waterways", can you take a minute to sign this e-petition asking that access should be at the heart of any new drive:
https://submissions.epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/25118
Many thanks, and see you in the river,
Sef
