I and a few others are planning to swim at Clifton Hampden on the morning of Saturday 21st August. Meet in the car park opposite the Barley Mow pub (south of the bridge on the road towards Long Wittenham) between 0800 and 0815 hrs. See map: http://www.multimap.com/s/lgXrfut1 We can decide on the exact plan on the day. We could swim up towards Clifton Lock and back, or (pleasanter) down-river as far as people want and either swim or walk back, depending on time, current, weather and energy. There is a good range of potential getting-out points downstream. Unless someone wants to swim down river to Days Lock at Little Wittenham (I don't think I will, it's over 2.5 miles I think!), it isn't possible to leave cars at both ends. Non-swimming partners and friends who fancy a morning stroll along the river bank watching us swim will be more than welcome, especially if they are willing to carry a few items of kit to swimmers' getting-out points. Usual terms and conditions apply. As always, you swim on your own responsibility Look forward to seeing you there. Regards Neil Richardson
All being well I'm planning on coming to this as a first trip out with OSS Oxon. I live in Wantage if anyone else is in the area and wants to lift share. One question - typically when I swim I arrive back at where I've left my kit. Is it reasonable to expect someone will be prepared to carry a pair of sandals down to the finish and if not how else to avoid hopping barefoot back to the start.
Sorry if this seems rather naive!
Regards Andrew

Hi Andrew
A good practical question. We usually sort something out when we meet up. Sometimes peopel have partners or frieds witht hem that can drive to the end with kit. Sometimes we shuttle so that we have cars at both ends with stuff in them. Last time we walekd to the end, hid our shoes, swam back and then drove round to pick up the shoes (There was nowhere to leave a car at the end)
So a logical worry, but don't worry we'll sort something somehow.
Oh and one other thing. It is helpful ifsomeone has a non-electronic door key they can swim with. I don't and I have to ask to leave it in someone else's car.

Nice to meet people today at Clifton Hampden today. I thoroughly enjoyed our trip down river - particularly the house shopping!
Cannot do anything now for a couple of weeks but would be keen to do something Saturday 4th if anyone was interested.

Thanks for the swim yesterday, Neil. Nicely planned entry and exit points, good length - about a mile and a bit - and achieved the aim of missing all the river traffic. The first boats came past just as we were getting out at 09h30.
The early morning swim really works well as it leaves the rest of the day free, as well as having the river to ourselves -nice and peaceful.
Good to meet the group of four of us. Here's to another early morning swim soon.
Regards Jeremy
