Anyone using Firefox 3.0 yet?
Has anyone here moved from Firefox 2.0.x to Firefox 3.0 yet? If so are there any big (or small) issues? My main problem is that my favourite add-on (Mozex) isn't available for Firefox 3.0 and looks like it may never be. There is an alternative (ItsAllText) but it's not so flexible and doesn't allow one Mozex facility that I do use (the ability to launch a local program from an arbitrary URL). One simple question occurs to me, can Firefox 3.0 be configured to call a text mode program (e.g. mutt in my case) on mailto: links? -- Chris Green
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi Chris, Upon trying to install it from the following URL (http://downloads.mozdev.org/mozex/mozex-1.07.xpi) it gives me the reason that it is incompatible as it does not supply secure updates. Is this the same for yourself? I am pretty certain you could rewrite it to suit your needs, and thus make it Firefox 3.x comaptible. This link may be helpful http://kb.mozillazine.org/Editing_an_add-on_to_change_its_compatibility Hope this is of some use. Regards, Steven Rose www.stevey.eu Chris G wrote:

I didn't even bother trying to install it, I did a Google search for "mozex firefox 3.0" and found that someone else had tried and failed. That's where I found the alternative ItsAllText.

I guess I could! :-) Thanks for the link. -- Chris Green

I've downloaded but not moved yet. I've several upgrades. I'll probably post "Why Firefox 3 Download Day Sucks" to planet alug shortly. Yes - I moved to 3.0 (beta) reluctantly by default when I upgraded my desktop Ubuntu install to Hardy. I wasn't (and I'm still not) wildly enthusiastic about 3.0 - particularly the fact that it was still in beta at the time. But I guess that Canonical didn't want to ship FF2 with a LTS release of Ubuntu.

Lots of my addons broke. My favourite (trashmail) has only just been released for 3.0 and bookmark duplicator and whois are still broken.

It would seem possible to add mutt as the client in Preferences -> applications -> mailto, but I can't get it to work. My Ubuntu 8.04 upgraded from the Firefox beta to the release late last week (Thursday?) and various plugins and websites are working again. The speed improvement is noticeable! Tim.

Mine is upgraded too - but it still won't render yahoo groups pages properly. I have to switch to opera to get that working. --------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a Microsoft free zone. Please do not send me Microsoft Word Documents. Stupid of me. An upgrade to adblock plus made me look at my adblock filters. I had a line with too wide a block on it ("*.yimg.com/*)" which of course destroyed the layout of the yahoo page. Beware of over zealous adblocks! Damned if I know why I put that in. Mick --------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a Microsoft free zone.
