[ALUG] FTP problem - update

I have updated the firmware in my router and I can now do FTP uploads from my laptop but still not from my desktop. My laptop is running Debian Stable but my desktop runs Debian Testing/Sarge. This problem now appears to be Debian Testing related although I can't find out what is causing it. Any more ideas anyone - please!
