Lots of things are now Switch Mode, pretty much anything requiring a low voltage DC supply of 1A or more is likely to be Switch Mode these days.
Imagine how hefty the PSU would be for an average PC if it wasn't an SMPSU 12v at 16A, 5V at 30A...that would be a pretty large transformer.
