Is this for real?

It is not at all real. There have been many viruses recently that are
work in a similar manner to this. In many ways it is a well-written
message. It looks as if it comes from someone with authority, and also
implies that they already know that you have a virus, so you wont report
to them that your computer is going slowly. 

I believe this is the worm that is currently causing Google many problems
by carrying out many searches to find email addresses to attack.
