Sorry, I'm not going to make it today as I've a bit of a dodgy stomach. Hope you all have a great swim and see you at the next one. Claire

I've been there before. What we've done before is arrive in cossie, put wetsuit on, hide car keys (unless there's a non swimmer) walk up river - with wetsuit shoes ideally (so you can swim back in them) and then swim back, rush to the cas towel and most then change into dry clothes - although I tend to come equipped with a few towels, wrap them round me and on the seat and drive home wet for a hot shower!

We haven't organised anything except to meet and have a swim. If
you've swum there before your well ahead of me (and Bryn I expect)
on possible logistical complications!
Lacking a better plan I'll probably walk up river some distance
wearing some beach shoes which I find Ok to swim in. If the water is
6C I doubt I'll walk far up river!

Hi - have done the swim before, but not without
support team who carried stuff etc! Just wondering what the deal
is - do we just turn up in wetsuits, walk up the river barefoot,
then swim down, and run back to the cars? Curious about the whole
etiquette thing - hoping to make it afterall now as kids football
match cancelled

Bob,
We are meeting at (or just before) 10:00 at the Walton
Well car park.

I've
not seen anyone suggest a time, so how about 10am at
Walton Well car park as suggested by Tim below. I've
swum with Tim and others 2-3 times from there and it
doesn't seem too frequented by rowers. Also I know
the setup and can show Oxford newbies the way to the
river if noone else is around, although as usual I'll
leave entirely up to you any decisions you make to
swim or not.
Personally,
I'll probably walk up river a bit and then swim
downstream - probably not too long given the time of
year, but we'll see how I feel in the morning!
Cheers

I can't make this
weekend (away from Oxford) but in
terms of good meeting places I'd suggest the car
park
at the end of Walton Well Road as a good southern
option:

or the Wolvercote car park off Godstow Road as a
northern option:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?ll=51.78147,-1.295252&z=19
With enough cars a shuttle between the two can
save a
lot of time.
Hope you have a fun swim; don't be put off by the
weather, swimming in the rain is fun!

I'd opt for somewhere around Port Meadow too,
either up Binsey Lane by The Peach Pub or up in
Wolvercoat by The Trout pub (Can anyone with
better local knowledge suggest a meet point?).
Just let me know where and when and I'll be
there!
