I've been experimenting with Google maps and have mapped out the swim here. About 1.37 miles so I guess about 30-50 mins!

OK I'll be there. I'm sure we can sort out a shuttle or something to deal with kit - it looks from Google as though there is a trck down to Grafton Lock. But it might be private!
I've also just had a play with Google maps and have put in the swim. It shows it as about 1.37 miles. So I'd guess at 40 mins or so if we do it casually.
I'll allow Google to shre the map with the mailing group and see what happens. It's the first time I've tried this so sorry if it doesn't work!
Cheers Bob

Dear All,
I've had several positive responses to my suggestion for early morning weekend Thames swims during August, but no suggestions as to where. I suggested Radcot as a possibility but I'm relatively new to river swimming myself and others may know better!. I don't know where most respondents are based so can't take that into account!
How about next Saturday 7th a.m, meet at Radcot bridge at 0800 hours? I did a little recce on foot there last Saturday, my idea is to walk upstream towards Grafton Lock, get in at a suitable place and swim back to Radcot bridge, or further downstream past the campsite where getting out might be easier. We can decide that finally on the day. I think something on your feet might be useful for walking up towards Grafton Lock. If necessary, I will forego the swim myself to carry people's kit back. River traffic built up rapidly last Sat. after 10.00 hrs so an early start would be best.
We can meet and park would be the Swan Hotel overflow car park by the campsite on the island east of the road, access is between the two traffic signal-controlled bridges.
Some people have suggested they can't make the 7th but can do the 21st or 22nd. What about another group swim somewhere else (downstream of Oxford?) on the 21st, at a similar time of day to avoid the river traffic?. Perhaps someone who is interested and has better local knowledge would like to suggest a place?
Hope to see some of you on the 7th. If so perhaps you would let me know.
Regards
Neil Richardson

Hi All,
Does anyone have any advice or favourite swimming spots on the river Evenlode? I'm up that way this weekend and wondered if there were any nice places for a swim...Anywhere between Shipton under Wychwood and Bladon would suit!
Thanks,

No not done the Evenlode. But I'd very much like to.
Unless anyone comes up with anything specific, I'd be happy to swim on Sunday (I cannot make Saturday) any time. I expect it to be like the Thame and the Windrush (a bit of swimming, a bit of doggy paddle, a bit of hauling yourself up over logs etc).
Although you said between Shipton and Bladon, did you have anywhere preferable?
James
Hi Michael
I'm frustrated I'm away this weekend as I've wanted to try the Evenlode for a while as I live just down the road! I reccy'd a bit last year and from memory decided I would try Part 2 on this map, and if brave Part 1 - which is quite long
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=1160214713612610558...
BUT: Two warnings:
1. This will be an adventure swim, not a pure swim. (Which I enjoy!) The Evenlode before Bladon is narrow and shallow in places, so there may well be walking, scambling and climbing over trees! 2. I couldn't see any exit points other than the Start 1, Start 2 and Finish I have marked, and even Start 1 looks difficult!
Bob
PS Please do your own checking - the above is from memory and I remembered it looked quite tricky.
Easier / safer / more tradiitonal alternative is the Thames. It passes close at Eynsham. There a plenty of others on this group who know good spots on that - 10 - 15 mins away.
