Dear All,
I've had several positive responses to my suggestion for
early morning weekend Thames swims during August, but no suggestions as
to where. I suggested Radcot as a possibility but I'm relatively new to
river swimming myself and others may know better!. I don't know where
most respondents are based so can't take that into account!
How about next Saturday 7th a.m, meet at Radcot bridge at
0800 hours? I did a little recce on foot there last Saturday, my idea
is to walk upstream towards Grafton Lock, get in at a suitable place
and swim back to Radcot bridge, or further downstream past the campsite
where getting out might be easier. We can decide that finally on the
day. I think something on your feet might be useful for walking up
towards Grafton Lock. If necessary, I will forego the swim myself to
carry people's kit back. River traffic built up rapidly last Sat. after
10.00 hrs so an early start would be best.
We can meet and park would be the Swan Hotel overflow car
park by the campsite on the island east of the road, access is between
the two traffic signal-controlled bridges.
Some people have suggested they can't make the 7th but can
do the 21st or 22nd. What about another group swim somewhere else
(downstream of Oxford?) on the 21st, at a similar time of day to avoid
the river traffic?. Perhaps someone who is interested and has better
local knowledge would like to suggest a place?
Hope to see some of you on the 7th. If so perhaps you
would
let me know.
Regards
Neil Richardson
