I found the problem, I had neglected to uncomment two lines in the smb.conf. A victim of my own stupidity again... What were they? I remember I had this problem; I've been looking through my notes to see how i sorted it, but don't seem to have written anything down about the problem.

They were : encrypt passwords = yes smb passwd file = /etc/smbpasswd I was put off uncommenting them because I didn't want to use encryption to start with, I just wanted to get it working. Oh well, I live and learn :) Mat
