Wow, if that spec is low end (especially HD space), I am curious as to what you define as high end.

I would consider a multiprocessor Sun Enterprise Server with disk space in the TB and several GB of RAM to be high end - at least for a single web server. Even this would struggle with the traffic that most large sites get today - particularly if the site application designers don't understand how web servers work, which seems to be too often the case.
