SuSE 9 and the same version of Realplayer as you and it's all working fine for me from the BBC site. Assuming you are using Konqueror (it works for me in both Konq and Mozilla) what do you have set up in the video group of the file associations for vnd.rn-realvideo. I've got the filename pattern set as *.rv, Application Preference set to "RealPlayer 8" and Embedding is turned off. Is that the same for you ?
