Sorry, what you do is just su, not invoking the root environment. You don't have to sign on as root. Then gdmsetup runs fine. At least, it does for me. And on the first screen there is a checkbox for including the configure option at logon. The thing I have found about gdm compared to xdm on old machines is that it seems a lot slower, don't know why. Peter
