You could try as root init 6 as I belive levels 5 and 6 are reserved for reboot and shutdown. the shutdown command I always need to type 10 times so I intended to alias the command then found that SuSe had saved me the job with restart and halt commands installed in /sbin The problem problem of remembering the command is that every time you get it right the computer shuts down and you forget to write the command down on boot up Sorry cant help try man shutdown and go through my procedure maybe you will find the answer.
