$ kpartx -av mydisk.dsk .. returns nothing, which by my understanding means it found nothing (I've not used kpartx before today though). Is there a simple way to get tools like "file" to look at an offset within the file? Eg it would be useful in this case to skip the leading blanks and see what follows.
