Sorry, I can't really help with CUPS. I don't know how to check what fonts the printer knows through it. It sounds to me like it might be a knoda bug if other KDE applications are happy with the fonts, though, so that's where I'd start, by checking their bug database, manuals and so on, then asking on its mailing list whether others have seen that problem before.
