Retchmail also supports spop (and is much simpler and faster, but doesn't do multidrop or other things fetchmail gets wrong itself). APOP should be in the snapshots now. There is interest in someone updating fastforward to support SSLing a port forward. There's already SSL support in its stream library, so shouldn't be too hard. It's just that it's not been needed yet, so no-one's written it. Fastforward is a fast port forwarder that tries not to waste more CPU or memory than absolutely necessary.
