Everyone needs to know about the Telephone Preference Service [ link ]. They are lovely people, who run a list of people who don't want nasty people phoning them all the time.
You just need to fill in the form on their webpage, or call 0845 070 0707, and leave your details. Then they send this list to people who would otherwise call you, and they do not. This is either due to self regulation on their industry's behalf, or due to statutory protection, but it is really good. I have not had anyone cold call me from the UK since I got my house (and I got a new phone number when I moved in and registered it the same day.
Unfortunately this has left me unable to be rude to Telemarketers (as I don't get any). I would like to experiment with the Anti-telemarketer script.
